Speakers Emphasize Raising Awareness to Combat Non-Communicable Disease at Dhaka Cast World Health Day Webinar

Healthcare startup Dhaka Cast organized a webinar on World Health Day 2022. Centered on overcoming the existing healthcare challenges in Bangladesh through information and communication technology.

In her welcome speech, Dhaka Cast Ltd. founder Dr. Fahreen Hannan thanked all the participants. While talking about the impacts of Dhaka Cast on the country’s healthcare sector, she said, “Dhaka Cast Ltd. started its journey in December 2019. Afterthe government announced a lockdown in March 2020, Dhaka Cast found itself in a very unique situation. During lockdown, we served 1200 Covid-19 patients. To date, DhakaCast served 3000 diabetic patients. We also started our service in Sylhet on a pilot basis and found great success. My plan is to spread our operation in rural areas all overBangladesh in near future.”

Professor Dr. Nuzhat Choudhury (Vitreo-Retina), Department of Opthalmology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital delivered the keynote speech on the challenges of universal health coverage for Non-Communication diseases (NCD). She said, “ “Universal Healthcare” means providing healthcare to all the citizens of a country at an affordable cost. We must make major changes in our healthcare system if we want to improve the situation. At the same time, we have to raise awareness among people by organizing social movements.”

Professor Dr. Md. Sk. Shahidullah Ph.D., Office Secretary, Bangladesh Medical Association, said, “Most of the rural people do not have the financial capability to get access to diabetes treatment. The best way to combat this problem is to raise awareness about diabetes among village people.”

Dr. Abdun Noor Tushar, Advisor, Foundation for Doctor’s Safety and Rights (FDSR),said, “ Over the years, major changes happened in our lifestyle and food habits. If aperson is not conscious of his health, then he cannot stay fit. Hence, health awareness is very much necessary.”

Dr. Md. Firoz Amin, Professor of Endocrinology and Head of Department (BIRDEM) said, “Smoking, lack of physical activity, poor food habits are some of the major contributors behind diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.”

Yasir Azman, CEO, of Grameenphone, was the Chief Guest at the webinar. He said, “Currently, lots of people in our country are using smart devices which generate a lot of heat that has a negative impact on the environment. Grameenphone also uses fossil fuel to run its network which is not good for the environment. We are currently trying to switch to renewable energy sources which drastically decrease the environmental pollution.
